Jake Gyllenhaal and Ben Stiller: intelligentsia and goofyness

Gemma Arterton attends the special screening of
"The Disappearance of Alice Creed" hosted by Anchor Bay Films
at Crosby Street Hotel on July 28, 2010 in New York City.

Asked about working with Gyllenhaal, she said: “He’s absolutely gorgeous and lovely, and quite goofy once you get to know him.

"The anti-intellectual movement in America embraces the film; the intelligentsia recoils.
Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz as Ted & Mary in "Something about Mary" (1998)

The story is easy to follow. Years ago, Ted Stroehmann (Ben Stiller) was a "dork" with a desperate crush on the gloriously radiant Mary Jenson (Cameron Diaz). He wins a prom date with her for defending her older, mentally retarded brother from a group of cool but callous jocks, but an unfortunate zipper choice ruins prom night. Already the pattern of the film is set: dating Mary is the ultimate prize, and how one empathizes with "goofy bastards" determines success".

Jake Gyllenhaal and Ben Stiller: with Michelle Monaghan

"Stiller is generally considered to be the leader of the “Frat Pack” that group of raucous and incredibly successful comedians who take immaturity as their main subject.
He can play a bumbling nebbish—as he did in his starmaking performance in There’s Something About Mary (1998) —but he can also project magnetic good looks —as in the romantic comedy The Heartbreak Kid (2007). He can seem both knowing and clueless. And Stiller also has one of Hollywood’s most transparent, readable faces. Like the finest film actors, he lets us see not just how his characters are behaving, but what they are thinking, what they are trying to hide. After all, had Stiller chosen, he could have been one of the finest theater actors of his generation. As the AWOL Ronnie Shaugnessy in The House of Blue Leaves, the 19-year-old actor commanded the stage like a young Al Pacino.
Ben Stiller and Wynona Ryder as Michael and Lelaina in "Reality Bites" (1994)

As a director, he has made Reality Bites (1994), a deft, multilayered ensemble film that chronicles Generation X aimlessness; The Cable Guy (1996), a wickedly funny and incisive comedy with Jim Carrey as a lonely cable repairman who was raised on television and desperately wants a new friend;
Zoolander, a hilarious sendup of fashion-industry pretension with Stiller giving a remarkably deep performance as the shallowest fashion model in history; and Tropic Thunder, which was the top box office film for several weeks this summer, a daring and politically incorrect satire of war movies that finds abundant humor in the chasm between the harsh, gritty reality of war and the cluelessness and self-absorption of big-time Hollywood filmmaking.
Stiller has been able to find success in Hollywood while also turning a mirror on it. He lets us laugh knowingly at show business, but he also reveals that show business is a reflection of both our dreams and our imperfections". Source: www.movingimagesource.us

Chandeliers & Phantom of Opera

HISTORIC CHANDELIER HUNG AT UPTOWN THEATRE: "The city’s beloved Uptown Theatre, with its old Hollywood glamour and class, has just installed a historic chandelier that once hung in the balcony corridor of the Loew’s Capitol Theatre (Manhattan, NY) from 1919-1968. The chandelier later hung in the Loews Cheri Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts and, most recently, was rewired, restored and displayed in the Museum of the Moving Image (Astoria, NY) for an exhibit on Loews’ 100th anniversary.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Emmy Rossum at 'The Day After Tomorrow' - Berlin Photocall on 5th May 2004 in Berlin, Germany

Emmy Rossum as Christine in The Phantom of the Opera (2004)

-Did all of the actors perform their own singing?
-Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, Miranda Richardson, and Patrick Wilson all performed their own singing.
-How did the film creators create the gigantic chandelier, which the enraged Phantom sends crashing down into the audience?

-Three versions of the chandelier had to be created: a “hero” piece for day to day filming, a “stunt” replica for shooting the crashing sequences, and a version outfitted for electricity for the scenes set in 1919. Based on the general shape and size of the chandelier that adorns the Garnier, the films chandelier is 17 feet high and 13.2 feet wide, weighing 2.2 tons. Valued at more than $1.3 million, the piece is covered with over 20,000 full cut Swarovski crystal chandelier pendants.
It took four months to construct and four days to assemble the chandelier at Pinewood studios. It was then raised to the domed ceiling of the Auditorium, which had to be reinforced to make up for the weight of the huge chandelier. The top of the set was built around the chandelier after it was hung". Source: www.hollywoodlot.com

Edie Sedgwick's look was all about contrasting elements.
She had boyishly short hair but wore fantastically long, elegant chandelier earrings.

A
chandelier is a branched decorative ceiling-mounted light fixture with two or more arms bearing lights. Towards the end of the 20th century, the chandelier is used more as a decorative focal point and designed as part of an array for home lighting in the rooms. Chandeliers are often ornate, containing dozens of lamps and complex arrays of glass or crystorama lighting to illuminate a room with refracted light.
One famous chandelier is the chandelier in the Opera Garnier which in the 1910 Gaston Leroux novel The Phantom of the Opera is crashed by the Phantom. The earliest candle chandeliers were used in medieval places of assembly.

Was Jake's habit of smoking a cause for Reese to leave?

"An acquaintance of Reese and Jake acknowledges that they
were very smitten with each other for quite awhile and seemed perfectly matched.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon spent the final day of 2008 going shopping with Jake's mom Naomi Foner at Santa Monica Farmer's Market in Los Angeles on December 31, 2008.

Unfortunately, Jake had a habit that Reese could not live with, and he wouldn’t give it up. He smoked way too much. And we’re not talking nicotine here. Not only did it rub Reese the wrong way, but she worried about her children being exposed to his bad habits.
So, regretfully, she moved on. Note: those of you who insist that Jake is gay are NUTS". Source: www.janetcharltonshollywood.com

Reese Withespoon has been a long time representative for AVON products and beauty campaigns.

Who knows which were the whole reasons for Jake and Reese to split up? Janet Charlton has been proven right sometimes and proven wrong other times, like for example last year, when she announced an imminent rupture between Ben Stiller & Christine Taylor, and she had to delete it from her site because she was flat out wrong:
"Janet Charlton decided to pull her Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor getting divorced story from yesterday. She didn't give an explanation. Just one minute it was there and the next it was gone. I got an e-mail from Ben's publicist and I thought I would share it with you, because you know, I'm a sharer.

To Whom It May Concern:

The blog posting on your site pertaining to Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor that you picked up from Janet Charlton is FALSE. We have spoken to Janet and she has taken down her post.

The moral of this story is don't believe everything you read".

Whichever the motives were for Jake and Reese's break-up (some people say it's due to Jake's closeted gayness/bisexuality, others due to Reese's uptightness), it's obvious Reese doesn't like smokers -nicotine or pot- (although his husband Ryan Phillippe allegedly made use of pot too). She's not like Kirsten Dunst (more with an European sensitivity towards the marijuana use). Seeing pictures of hotties exhaling smoke has always seemed to me attractive somehow (let's start with two stills from "Brothers"):
